
Youth Council ONE is a youth council in Oulu that aims to promote the well-being of every young person in Oulu and those studying in Oulu through various activities: giving statements, bringing out young people’s ideas, monitoring local decision-making, interviewing decision-makers, and even taking them bowling if necessary.
Our mission is to take the voice of young people to decision-making!
You can apply for the youth council through the youth elections.
Oulu has a youth council comprising 14–19-year-olds. A start-up camp or orientation days are held at the beginning of the new youth council term, where the members are introduced to the activities and get to know each other.
The youth council meetings are usually held once a month, and meeting fees are paid. The name of the Oulu youth council is ONE, which stands for Oulu Youth Representation. The youth council’s task is to promote youth issues and ensure the young people’s voice is heard in city decision-making. The youth council is elected through youth elections every two years. The council consists of 24 regular members and 6 alternates.
The youth council has the right to speak and be present at committee meetings. Representatives from ONE are elected to participate in committee meetings from those who wish to attend. The chairperson of the youth council also has the right to speak and be present at Oulu City Council meetings. ONE also has its own events and communications working groups.
