The Long History of Byström’s House
Byström’s House was built after Oulu’s second great fire, in 1882–84. The building was commissioned by Otto Isaac Ravander. It became owned by the Byström family in 1927, and the City of Oulu purchased it in 1970.
Throughout its history, Byström’s House has hosted many kinds of activities: a general store, a Swedish elementary school, the Oulu Radio Association, a social services office, and most recently Byström One-Stop Guidance Centre. The house has also been a home for many people until it was transferred to city ownership.
You can read more about the colorful history of Byström’s House on its dedicated website.
What will happen next at Byström’s House, we do not yet know. One thing is quite certain, however: one resident will remain. Mimmi, who has been observing the house’s activities for over a hundred years.
Thank you, Byström’s House, you were an atmospheric place to work!
