Oulu Youth Services turns 80 this year – come and celebrate with us. The purpose of the anniversary year is to highlight youth work, youth work professionals and youth as a stage in life, but above all you young people, because without you there would be no us. The anniversary year is divided into twelve themes that showcase the youth work done in Oulu.
Themes of the Anniversary Year
At the beginning of the year, the themes focus on the history of Youth Services and on how young people’s study and employment opportunities are supported. Related to this theme, memories from youth workers and young people will be shared on Instagram and on the Nuorten Oulu website.
In spring, the themes include youth work in different environments, equality, and a sustainable future. As part of the spring theme, an 80-hour livestream will be organized during the winter holiday.
The summer themes highlight culture, encounters with young people, and community spirit. The already traditional Kaikkien kesäfestari (“Summer Festival for Everyone”) will also take place during the anniversary year on June 3rd.
In autumn, the focus shifts to young people’s leisure time, everyday and mental well-being, and dreaming. During the autumn holiday, an evening event for young people will be organized. Strengthening young people’s well-being will also be visible in the traditional group-building activities for seventh graders, in open youth center activities, and in other leisure activities for young people.
The anniversary year culminates at the end of the year with the theme of gratitude and appreciation. In November gala will be held in for Youth Services employees and invited guests. In December, young people will have their own Christmas celebration. In addition, the Oulu City Library Saari will host an exhibition showcasing youth work from December 11th to 30th, with an opening event on December 11th.
80 Cultural Climate Actions and Honorary Mentions
Throughout the anniversary year, 80 cultural climate actions will be carried out in youth activities across Oulu, and 80 honorary mentions will be awarded to young people and Youth Services employees. These cultural climate actions promote community spirit and positive activities both with young people and within work communities. The honorary mentions aim to show appreciation for those working with young people as well as for the young participants themselves.
You can follow the anniversary events on the Nuorten Oulu Instagram and the Nuorten Oulu website. You can also take part in anniversary activities at youth centres, youth workshop centres and Byström’s One-Stop Guidance Centre.
