Nature Workday

The annual Nature Workday Week will be held on 18–22 May 2026. Nature Workday encourages employees and work communities to move their work outdoors for a moment and make use of nature’s wellbeing and health benefits. A workday can be spent partly or entirely outside — in a nearby park, forest, beach, or even in one’s own yard when working remotely. Nearby nature offers excellent settings for spending a Nature Workday. It is easily and quickly accessible, so no time is lost in transitions.

The aim of Nature Workdays is to encourage Finnish work communities to try new kinds of work environments and to strengthen their connection to nature as part of everyday work. Working in nature can improve concentration, reduce stress, and support recovery, while also bringing new perspectives and creativity into the workplace. Working outdoors has been experienced as a restorative part of the workday, and even small changes help bring nature’s wellbeing effects into daily routines.

The are you going out into nature team and HR services encourage all city employees to increase nature exposure and integrate nature’s health benefits into their work. Eco-support personnel are also involved. The staff of Byström One-Stop Guidance Centre participated in Nature Workday according to their own possibilities.

After Tuesday’s morning coffee, youth workers Riikka and Anna admired the pansy plantings and enjoyed lunch behind Cultural Centre Valve. They even had the chance to do some birdwatching a female mallard and a common rosefinch were spotted.

Career coaches Saana and Tiina, together with individual coach Anu, went on a pop-up trip to the Koppana camp centre with young people to relax and enjoy the sauna. The weather was perfect, and everyone enjoyed the nature and the sunshine!

Henna joined a project presentation remotely. With an earpiece in one ear, they could listen to birdsong and then transition straight into a live meeting in Tuira. Efficient multitasking.

Sanna, in turn, shared that the meeting via Teams went smoothly even from the yard of Villa Pukkila. Colleagues on the other end of the line got to enjoy the lovely birdsong drifting from the trees, and on this “get closer to nature” workday, tasty snacks brought extra joy alongside the surrounding nature.
