Youth work is part of many places in your everyday life.

You can meet youth workers at youth centres, at school, around the city, and online – often in the same places where you already spend your time.

Joining is easy and low‑threshold: you don’t need to have any special skills or be anything beforehand.

In May, the theme of Oulu Youth Services’ 80th anniversary year is Youth work close to young people. Below are examples of where youth work is part of your everyday life. You can explore these in more detail through the links.

Youth Centers – a familiar place to be yourself

For many, youth centres are a safe place to hang out. You can come to play games, do your own thing, chat with friends, or just spend time being.

Youth workers are there for you – to listen, support you if something’s on your mind, or even join you as a gaming buddy.

Street‑Based Youth Work – where young people are

Youth workers meet young people in parks, on the streets, at events, and around the city.
The idea is to be an approachable adult wherever you spend time – to talk, offer support, and be present without pressure or expectations.

In Schools and at Events – part of your everyday life and free time

Youth work also takes place in schools and at different events. Youth workers are right there where you already are – supporting your well‑being and positive vibes.

If something’s on your mind, it’s easy to bring it up. You can come and talk casually, without needing to know or prepare anything in advance.

Online – youth work also in the digital world

Youth work is also active online and across social media. You can find us, for example, on the Nuorten Oulu website, on a wide range of social media platforms, on Discord, gaming platforms, and through livestreams.

You can chat, ask for advice, or join in activities – easily and in your own way.

Youth Workshops – time to find your own thing

At youth workshops, you can learn new skills alongside like‑minded people, guided by professionals. All you need is the willingness to find your own path and learn something new.

The workshops are open to all unemployed young people in Oulu and upper secondary students. You don’t need to have any previous skills, and your earlier work or education background doesn’t matter. The workshops are aimed at young people under the age of 29.
