The summer belongs to the youth! Summer holidays have started and Oulu city centre is filled with people on warm summer days. Long bright days provide an opportunity to enjoy nature and spend time together. For many, summer means a vacation and a moment to catch one’s breath amidst the busyness of everyday life.
In the summer, there is time to try out new hobbies with a low threshold or participate in events that interest you. Oulu is the European Capital of Culture 2026, and this is also reflected in the diverse range of events. There are many options on activities, so it is time to turn our sights on Kesäkoonti 2026, which has various summer activities gathered in one place!
If you’re looking for something to do, check out the Kesäkoonti 2026 package, compiled by the summer interns of the Youth Information and Counseling Service. The package contains budget-friendly things to do in Oulu throughout the summer! The Summer Collection includes information about local programs aimed at young people and young adults in the form of culture, art, sports and hobbies.
We at Byström have activities and get-togethers during the summer. In addition to the familiar services and counselling, we welcome young people from Oulu to join our summer group activities and events.
In June, Byströmin Guidance Centre will have normal opening hours, with the exception of Midsummer week. More detailed dates for service-specific summer breaks can be found in Kesäkoonti 2026. Please note that the entire Byströmin Guidance Centre will be on a summer break from 13.-27.7. Outside of the break, we are closed on Mondays, but open from Tuesday to Thursday from 12-16 and on Fridays from 12-15 during July.
You can find more schedules in the Kesäkoonti 2026 package. More detailed June activities and opening hours can be found in this article.
During the summer, free park lunches are organized for children, young people, and young adults. Park lunches for 18-29-year-olds are organized in July from Monday to Thursday. There is a free lunch and varied programs.
You do not need to register for the park lunches. You can simply arrive there with your cutlery, food-container and a drink. The park lunches are substance-free events. There are also some additional activities.
The park lunches are held from 13–14. On Monday’s the lunch is hosted in Loko Youth Hub (Kauppurienkatu 23). On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays the lunch is hosted in the courtyard of Byström (Hallituskatu 5A). Please note that here is a separate park meal for those under 18.
